What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid allows Purpose of Life to claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate, at no extra cost to you. It is a government scheme for UK taxpayers, and it helps us do more with every eligible donation.
When you tick the Gift Aid box on our cart page before checkout, you are giving us permission to claim Gift Aid on your donation.
We use the details you provide at checkout, including your title, name and home address, to support our Gift Aid records.
Your Gift Aid declaration
Boost your donation by 25p of Gift Aid for every £1 you donate. Gift Aid is reclaimed by Purpose of Life from the tax you pay for the current tax year.
I declare that I am a UK taxpayer and understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year, it is my responsibility to pay any difference.
How it works
If you are eligible and tick the Gift Aid box, Purpose of Life can reclaim 25p for every £1 you donate.
Who can use Gift Aid?
You can make a Gift Aid declaration if:
- you are a UK taxpayer
- you have paid enough UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in that tax year to cover the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations
- the donation is your own money
- you are donating as an individual
Gift Aid FAQs
Does Gift Aid cost me anything?
No. Gift Aid does not cost you anything extra. It simply allows us to reclaim tax on eligible donations.
Am I eligible for Gift Aid?
You must pay enough UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in the relevant tax year to cover the amount that Purpose of Life, and any other charities you support, will reclaim on your donations. If you pay less than that amount, it is your responsibility to pay the difference.
Taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify for Gift Aid purposes.
I support more than one charity. Can I still use Gift Aid?
Yes, but you must have paid enough UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover the total Gift Aid claimed by all charities you support in that tax year.
I already gave Gift Aid to another charity. Do I need to do it again for Purpose of Life?
Yes. A Gift Aid declaration applies to the specific charity named in the declaration, so you must give a declaration for each charity you want to support through Gift Aid.
What if my tax situation changes?
If you stop paying enough UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax, you should let us know so we can stop claiming Gift Aid on your donations going forward.
What details do you need from me?
We use the details you provide at checkout, including your title, name and home address, to support your Gift Aid declaration and keep our records up to date.
Can I still donate if I am not a UK taxpayer?
Yes, absolutely. You can still donate to Purpose of Life, but we cannot claim Gift Aid on your donation if you are not eligible.
Need to update or cancel your Gift Aid declaration?
Please contact Purpose of Life if you:
- want to cancel your Gift Aid declaration

- only want Gift Aid to apply to a specific donation
